Out with the tired old flat and in with fresh, fabulous new offices.
Campus ‘homemakers’: from flat to fabulous
SCROLL
During the official opening of the new offices, Greg Roberts (in the back), gave a special word of thanks to the Residence and Catering Services staff, calling them the heart and soul of the department. With him are Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg (left) and Herman Steyn (right) who led the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
As a result of the recent restructuring process, the Residence and Catering Services (RCS) department on the campus in Potchefstroom had to relocate. Fortunately, they had the bright idea of revamping an unused house parent flat in the Kom en Gaan residence.
Cutting the ribbon
Then, on 20 September, while the sun was shining brilliantly and the palm trees swayed gently in the breeze, the ribbon was cut and the new office space officially opened.
Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg, deputy vice-chancellor for the campus, and Herman Steyn, the director for Business Enterprise Development, led the ceremony.
Greg Roberts, manager of RCS on the campus in Potchefstroom, thanked everyone involved – from management to the various contractors and project specialists – for their hard work and support.
Quality service is their motto
RCS plays an important supporting role on the campus by delivering quality food and living space to students and staff.
“We accommodate students and guests in our wide range of high-quality, well-equipped facilities,” says Greg.
“We also strive to provide our clients with a wide variety of balanced meals and refreshments at affordable prices. All meals are prepared in our well-equipped kitchens using best practices, and served in our dining halls, cafeterias, coffee shops, kiosks and restaurants.”
Catering for empty tummies
RCS provides various services on the campus in Potchefstroom. Their catering services include two production kitchens, Dampad and Voorhuis. Besides catering for the Voorhuis dining hall, they also cater for satellite kitchens and dining halls in various residences. These are the Minjonet and Oosterhof ladies residences and De Wilgers men’s residence.
Staff and students can enjoy a hearty, freshly prepared and very reasonably priced lunch, served from 12:00 to 14:00 at any of these dining halls.
RCS also caters for events and meetings and can serve cooked meals, platters, refreshments, dinners or lunch packs.
In addition, RCS has food and beverage services at various cafeterias and restaurants, as well as hospitality and residence services.

Before relocating to these new offices, RCS staff were housed in the Joon van Rooy building, followed by a short stint in one of Protection Services’ buildings.
Residence and Catering Services’ new offices boast an elegant reception area with a modern boardroom and individual offices with refined finishes. There is also an outside area where staff can relax or have meetings.
Frik van Zyl and Sarah Molefe are two of the RCS staff who made sure everyone at the ribbon-cutting ceremony could enjoy gourmet snacks.
Staff members at the official opening are from left Lassie Williams, Lerato Modise, Thea Appel, Rika van Rooien, Greg Roberts, Cindy Vivier, Martin Oosthuizen, Erin Greeff, Lucas Williams, Tshiamo Cala, Lombard Bezuidenhout, Melita Mosholil and, behind her, Isaac Mcina.
