CHEERS

to a vibrant student life!

Picture this: It is the Varsity Cup final and our boytjies are playing their hearts out against a determined Tuks team. There are eight minutes left on the clock and the NWU leads by three points.

The atmosphere is electric and every student in the house jumps in unison to their feet as the purple number 10 dashes past two defenders to fly over the try line and clinch a series win.  The room erupts with cheers and jubilation: N...W...U! N…W…U!

It is with moments like these in mind that the management of the campus in Vanderbijlpark recently opened the doors of the campus’ very own Student Sports Pub. According to the campus’ sport manager, Sean McCallaghan, the pub offers students a place where they can meet informally to watch televised sports events or just hang out.

The new venue is located at the cricket club house and is designed so that students can socialise, network, eat and relax. “The new Student Sports Pub is just one of the exciting new initiatives aimed at enhancing the student life experience,” says Sean, adding that staff can also make use of the new facility.

The pub was officially opened by Prof Linda du Plessis, the deputy vice-chancellor for stragegic planning and for campus operations in Vanderbijlpark, and Thokozani Hadebe, Student Campus Council chairperson, on 15 February 2018.

The pub is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 17:00 - 22:00. Thursdays are reserved for group bookings by residences, societies and sports clubs. For more information please contact Sean on (016) 910 3229 or via email at sean.mccallaghan@nwu.ac.za.

Herman Steyn, director for business and enterprise development, also attend the opening of the Student Sports Pub. With him are members of the Student Campus Council.
