Meeting your communication needs

Dear colleagues,

Last year we did a survey to find out what our NWU staff members’ preferences are when it comes to internal communication at the NWU.

Some of the results showed us which topics you find relevant and would like to know about. They are (from most to least relevant) general notices, internal training and development of staff, important events, campus news, messages from the vice-chancellor, policies and the implementation of the new strategy and structure.

Let’s take a closer look at how these topics are covered in the different communication channels at the NWU, and in particular the Eish!

General notices:

  • @nwu, sent out every Tuesday and Friday via email
  • Electronic newsletters such as Take note, Urgent, and From the vice-chancellor (sent out as and when needed)

Opportunities for training and development:

  • Staff-training@NWU, an electronic newsletter sent out by People and Culture
  • NWU-Wellness, an electronic newsletter sent out by the NWU Wellness office, that also sometimes covers other kinds of staff development, for instance managing time or stress at work.
  • Eish! also gives an overview of training and development opportunities, and provides feedback after workshops.

Important events and campus news:

  • NWU at the forefront, an electronic newsletter sent out every Thursday via email.
  • Eish! also reports on events that have taken place, for instance the article on the 2017 Indaba in this edition.
  • BUAtv, a communication channel showcasing the achievements of our staff, students and alumni, is sent to you via email several times per year.

Messages from the vice-chancellor:

  • Eish!
  • From the vice-chancellor, an electronic newsletter sent out when the vice-chancellor wants to communicate something at a specific time.

Policies:

  • NWU website
  • Eish!, for instance in this edition’s “Focus on” article.

Implementation of the new strategy and structure:

  • Eish!, for instance the article explaining the structure and functions of Student Academic Lifecycle Administration (SALA) in this edition
  • Other electronic newsletters regularly communicate news about this important topic.
  • On the staff intranet you will find a dedicated page, called NWU restructuring, with all the relevant information and documentation about this matter.

What it boils down to is that we, the members of the editorial team, are here to satisfy your communication needs. Please click on the icon in the top right-hand corner of this page and let us know what you want to read in the Eish! It’s YOUR staff newsletter, after all.

We look forward to hearing from you.
