Staff members go the extra distance
The NWU has dedicated staff who routinely go above and beyond the normal call of duty. In Eish!’s regular extra mile series, we give recognition to colleagues who do more than is expected of them.
James Botha
Willemien Botha, administrative officer at Institutional Legal Services, says James Botha, acting director of and senior legal advisor in this department, deserves recognition for all his hard work.
“He is exceptionally dedicated and always has time for other people. Although he is often under immense pressure due to the nature of his work, he still finds time to be involved in various organisations, including the pension fund and Universities South Africa, and is also chairperson of the Cherenkov Telescopic Array.”
She says James is a wonderful example of a staff member who is ethical, energetic and caring. “He is definitely someone the NWU can be proud of.”
Christi Bester
Prof Elda de Waal of the Edu-HRight research unit on the Potchefstroom Campus says Christi Bester, administrative assistant for finances in the Faculty of Education Sciences on this campus, is always willing to help her with any computer-related problems.
“As a newly appointed staff member I have experienced a few computer-related dilemmas but Christi always assists with dedication and friendliness.” Elda says it is colleagues such as Christi who keep her smile on her face.
Chimone Barends, Dassie Janse van Vuuren and Johan Schoeman
Study guides are essential to all students, and Anita Stapelberg, manager of the Study Guide Distribution Centre on the Potchefstroom Campus, says three people at the Institutional Office are making a big difference through their dedication to the centre.
They are Chimone Barends, senior training and support officer, and Johan Schoeman, system specialist, both of Kuali Financial Systems, and Dassie Janse van Vuuren, business analyst of IT Business Development and Support. Together, they ensure that all the electronic challenges that the distribution centre experiences from time to time are overcome.
“All three help us at short notice and their attitude and dedication make our work worthwhile. We are very thankful to them for going the extra mile,” says Anita.
