Exploring our art

In this edition of our series on NWU artworks, we feature the inspiring artworks adorning the walls of the rector’s council chambers in the administration building on the Vaal Triangle Campus.

The two charcoal drawings are the work of a lady named Hilda and were done in 2009. Former rector Prof Piet Prinsloo commissioned these artworks, portraying the industrial character of the Vaal Triangle region.

The other three panels, also portraying industry in this area, were donated by the Sebokeng Teachers College, which closed its doors in the mid-nineties. Artist Riana used ink, charcoal, watercolours and pastels to complete these mixed-medium artworks in 1993.
