Undergraduate Loans


NSFAS Loan Scheme

Applications will be administrated by NSFAS only.


Online applications are available on the NSFAS website from 1 Augustus 2017 to 30 November 2017:


Senior Students:  - Only new applicants must apply electronically. 

                               - Current NSFAS students, who completed a NSFAS contract and received the loan

                                 must not apply for 2018.

                                 Your application will be carried over until you complete your studies provided

                                 you meet the academic criteria: 50% + 1 for registered modules. 


No hard copies or late applications will be accepted.

Prospective Gr 12 students attach the following documents:

        -  Certified copy of matric certificate

        -  Printout of electronic online application

Students of the University attach the following documents:

       -  Certified copy of ID

       -  Certified copy of academic record

       -  Proof of 2017 registration


Closing dates

How do I apply?

Complete the online application form and submit with the required documents to your campus of registration. No faxes will be accepted. Bursary information for 2018 will be available from August 2017.

A   NWU Postgraduate Bursary

                          Masters Progress and Progress Report (Addendum A)*
                          Doctoral Progress and Progress Report (Addendum A)*
* All students from the second year of the degree must apply for a Progress Bursary.

B    NWU Postgraduate Academic Merit Bursary

 APPLICATION FORM:     Academic Merit*
*Students from other Universities: These students must apply annually on the prescribed application form. This bursary is automatically calculated for North-West University students only.
The NWU Postgraduate Bursary and Academic Merit Bursary are two separate bursaries.
