Researcher excels in speed walking
A researcher from the School of Basic Sciences on the Vaal Triangle Campus (NWU Vaal Triangle) - Prof Elize van Eeden recently proved that the saying, “dynamite comes in small packages” does indeed ring true. Not only did Professor Van Eeden tame the Comrades Marathon earlier in the year with a time of 10:53:38 but she also tasted success during the recent South African Race Walking Championship that took place in Oudshoorn.
As a member of the Gauteng North team she obtained a gold medal in her age group, 50-54 years, and came second overall in the women’s category for the 30km challenge. Her time in this event was 3:23. The event, hosted in conjunction with Athletics South Africa, took place in Oudshoorn for the 10th consecutive year. The team from Gauteng North finished in the overall second position and was rewarded with three gold medals.
