Honours degree Events
Each year the Tourism Honours degree students have to organise an annual event, which varies between being a golf day, a music event or Mr. and Miss Tourism. This year’s events that were hosted included the golf day and Mr. and Miss Tourism.
Golf Day 2010:
This event took place on the 13th of August at the Goldfields golf course in Carletonville. A total of thirty 4-balls participated in the event. Seven of the current honours degree students formed part of the VIP (Very Innovative Planners) group that organised this event.
Mr. and Miss Tourism 2010:
Mr. and Miss Tourism took place on the 12th of August 2010 at the Featherhill Spa, Potchefstroom. Again seven honours degree students developed their own organising committee. The event consisted of a junior and senior category. In the junior category, high school pupils could participate and in the senior category, first year to third year tourism students participated. Participants had to design their own outfits from recyclable products with Green Tourism as a theme.
Both of these events were very successful. The two groups decided to combine their profits and donated it to the E.S. Le Grange School for children with intellectual disabilities. A total of R25 000 was donated.
During the year each of the honours degree students have the opportunity to be the manager of a different aspect within organising the events. The students then have to vote who they think is the best manager. This year’s best manager was Mr. Clinton Appel.
