NWU excites Free Staters’ brains

 

The North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus recently hosted its annual Free State Science Convention during which top achieving learners from this province were invited to the campus.

Learners and staff that were part of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus’ Free State Science Convention are: Janita Jacobs (Eunice High School), Prof Kobus Pienaar (Dean), Marisa Botha (High School Central), Jansie Malan (Fichardtpark High), Louw Prinsloo (Chairman of Free State Science Association), Bandile Makeleni (Kagish Secondary School), Pako Setsiba (HTS Louis Botha), Hanco Buys (High School Jim Fouché) and Mofenyi Masisi (CBC St Josephs, Bloemfontein).

Hannatjie Visagie (NWU Marketing and Communication), Lourens Muller (Voortrekker High), Prof Kobus Pienaar (Dean), Shaun Robertson (Witteberg High), Louw Prinsloo (Chairman of the Free State Science Association), FP de Wer (Wessel Maree High) and Rudi Lombaard (Witteberg High).

 


  According to the dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof Kobus Pienaar, the university aspires to equip students with knowledge and life skills in order to be successful in their careers. “Our core business is education, research and the implementation of expertise. We believe and trust that the NWU Potchefstroom Campus’ Science Convention will contribute to these goals and the learners’ development.”
  The Convention kicked off in the Science Centre where learners in physical science were introduced to the different learning areas and vocational possibilities. However, the focus was on Science and Engineering. The Convention concluded with a formal dinner where learners and role players could enjoy themselves. During the evening the learners were also rewarded for their different projects and participation.
