The vision of the NWU is to become a pre-eminent university in Africa and quality assurance is an indispensable element of this endeavour.

Quality is assured through internal and external evaluation processes and is coordinated in collaboration with the Institutional Quality Office.

Self-evaluation as primary quality assurance mechanism is the responsibility of each management head in a school, department, unit or faculty and applies to academic as well as support units.

During external evaluation processes internal evaluation processes are validated by experts from outside the NWU.  The quality of academic programmes is also assessed by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education.  Professional bodies play a supplementary role by focusing on the quality assessment of professional qualifications and programmes.
