The ambition of the Centre for Human Metabonomics to deliver research that is relevant to South Africa but also internationally regarded. Metabolomics is the process whereby which biomarkers, biosignatures and eventually bio-information is generated through sophisticated technology, bioinformatics, statistics and biochemical expertise. The Centre offers a Masters and PhD degree in biochemistry and most of our students come from a biochemistry background although we also consider students from other backgrounds. Students work as part of a team in sub programs within the Centre and are also expected to collaborate cross disciplinary with researchers in chemistry, statistics and the health sciences. State of the art infrastructure, a motivated students and guidance by highly acclaimed staff members enable the Centre to deliver cutting edge research that leads to publications, patents and improved quality of life for many South Africans.
