Welcome to the Northwest University, School of Agricultural Sciences’ (SAS) website. We are the only School of Agricultural Sciences in the entire Northwest University and located in the Mafikeng Campus. We offer opportunities for students who want to pursue 3 year diploma qualifications in Agriculture in the fields of Animal Sciences and Crop Sciences and a 3 year diploma in Animal Health. We also offer BSc degrees in Agriculture (in Animal Health, Animal Science, Crop Science, and Agricultural Economics). Beyond undergraduate, we have a vibrant postgraduate research community. We offer BSc (Hons) degrees that are being phased out in the next 2 to 3 years. Students can also pursue studies towards MSc and PhD in all four fields mentioned above. To enhance our research capacity, we also bring in postdoctoral fellows who also assist in co-supervision of students, but mainly embark on research activities. All national and international students are welcome to apply. Among the highlights, the SAS has a the Dale Beighle Center for Animal Health Studies (DBCAHS) which hosts one of a few fully fledged Animal Hospital in South Africa, with a complement of 8 veterinarians at any given time. The Animal Hospital has Small and Large Animal Clinics, Diagnostic, Research and Teaching laboratories, offering top of the shelf service to clients and communities around us, thus providing first class hands-on teaching to students in Animal Health. The Center for AgriBusiness and Entrepreneurial Skills Training (CAEST) serves in teaching short courses to commodity farmers, extension officers, update on better and emerging farming practices, as well as do contract work in farm business planning. Please take time and explore the website of the School of Agricultural Sciences. You will be amazed at the variety of services we can offer you.
