Dear colleagues,

This newsletter offers a brief perspective on the quality assurance of academic programmes and support divisions at the NWU, so as to emphasise the responsibility of everyone within the context of academic and/or support services.

In this edition:

Quality assurance is everyone's responsibility
During the preparation for the HEQC quality audit, a gap register was compiled. Shortly after the audit, managers at different levels and in all the managerial units started paying attention to this.

In 2010, a new phase dawned for academic external programme evaluations (EPEs) at the NWU, when international experts became part of the evaluation panels.

Are the programmes offered by the NWU on standard?
All academic programmes at the NWU are graded according to the criteria of the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC). If a programme is found not to comply with the minimum standards during the external programme evaluation, a post-EPE visit is undertaken to ensure that improvement plans are implemented to improve the grading of the programme to the minimum standards. In 2010, nine post-EPE visits took place on the campus.

A YES for quality!
Support services on the Potchefstroom Campus attended a workshop on quality assurance processes on Thursday 17 March 2011. Of the 27 departments on the Potchefstroom Campus, 23 were represented by various staff members, and some departments were even represented in full.
