Staged in the Sanlam Auditorium on the campus in Potchefstroom on 30 and 31 August and on 1 and 2 September, the much-loved musical Fame was a thrilling, unforgettable feast for the senses.

The creative team responsible for Fame, namely members of Artéma, Alabama Productions and NWU Potch Arts, took the audience on a glorious journey filled with great performances by talented performers who included students and lecturers.

Alumna Nacia Kruger directed and choreographed this exciting production, while Pieter de Bruin, the artistic director of the Artéma recording studio, was in charge of the music. A nine-piece orchestra provided the accompaniment.

BUAtv: Lights, camera, action

With YouTube being one of the fastest growing social media platforms in South Africa, the NWU has decided to capitalise on its popularity by launching BUAtv.

BUAtv, a new initiative by the Corporate Communication Department, is where all the ground-breaking activities and achievements of the institution will be celebrated and showcased to the public. (Bua is the Setswana word for “talking”.) With the tag phrase, “Be Involved, Be Informed, Be Innovative”, BUAtv promises to reveal nothing but the best. The first episode premiered on 25 August and the second episode was broadcasted on 15 September. These episodes boasted the institution’s most recent successes in the fields of sports, academic, research, cultural activities and community engagement. Clement Manoko, executive director for the NWU’s Corporate Relations and Marketing department is very excited about BUAtv. “The platform will show current students, prospective students, staff, alumni, local and international stakeholders and the university’s teaching, innovation and research achievements,” he says. Behind the scenes Forensic accountancy lecturer Constant van Graan and second-year communication studies student Ntsoaki Mokete are the two main anchors. In addition, there are seven other field reporters across the NWU who will also bring news to our stakeholders. We have received a lot of feedback since airing the first two episode and will definitely take these comments into consideration when producing future episodes.
