Messages from afar

Dear fellow alumni,

I have always had an appreciation for life and what goes with it, and with that said, this is a letter of appreciation.

I appreciate what I gained from the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark during the three years of studying BCom in sport and recreation management.

Firstly I would like to thank marketer Mr Piet van Wyk for believing in me and helping me get into the NWU with mediocre matric results. He gave me an opportunity to do a short maths course in January before my classes started. While doing this course, I found the drive to perform on a level I didn't know I had in me. With this drive and with God’s blessing, I received my degree on 11 May 2017, cum laude.

I want to thank all my lecturers from 2014 until 2016. It is with your guidance and wisdom that I am prepared to do my honours degree in marketing at UCT this year.

Every single NWU lecturer who was part of my degree gave me something to take into adulthood, whether on an academic level or in the form of emotional intelligence.

Although I do not want to mention names in particular, I have to give recognition to a few who really made a difference in my life without knowing it.

They are Ms Bianca Els who taught recreation, Dr Luzaan Hamilton who gave me the opportunity to be her assistant, Prof Natasha de Klerk who taught marketing research, Ms Tembi Mosabala who taught business finance, and Dr Re-An Müller who has a passion for marketing, business, lecturing, students and good ideas.

Lastly, I would like to thank the NWU for the way our graduation ceremony was held. It was a blessing and a pleasure. Thanks for opening the ceremony with a Bible reading and a short message of faith from a pastor. It was absolutely beautiful that the NWU and the parents who were present gave honour and thanks to God for our talents and abilities.

I thank you, NWU, for three wonderful years. You gave me joy, friends, wisdom, incredible scenery and hope for the future. I already miss the beautiful campus and the entertaining geese.

All my gratitude

Nadia Gouws
