According to Wikipedia, the tradition of class rings originated with the class of 1835 at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Joining numerous colleges and universities across the world in establishing an official affinity ring tradition, the NWU is also selling an affinity ring for alumni.
Worldwide, the affinity ring is a proud and visible symbol of the connection that alumni feel toward their alma mater. Some institutions even have special ring ceremonies where the vice-chancellor calls alumni to the stage and presents them with the affinity ring.
