The NWU & U
Please send us your comments, suggestions and any other contributions you would like to make, for instance photographs or news snippets.
We value your opinions and input – after all, the NWU & U belongs to us all.
“We have always aimed at producing successful graduates – individuals who were primarily prepared to make a contribution to our great nation,” said Prof Frik van Niekerk, the NWU’s deputy vice-chancellor for research, innovation and technology.
“We are improving in countless ways with a view to deliver quality students that one day will become well-known beacons in our society – people who may in future be deemed worthy of an alumnus award,” he concluded.
They are role models, all seven of them, and we can but strive to follow in their footsteps. This is the impression you gain when looking at the exemplary achievements of the seven alumni who received Alumni Awards from the NWU on 9 October 2015 at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton.
The recipients follow in the illustrious footsteps of great alumni previously honoured with these awards such as the late Prof TT Cloete, FW de Klerk, Judge Yvonne Mokgoro, Dr Bismark Tyobeka, the late Adv Jan Henning, Prof Pieter Stoker and Alec Moemi, among others.
This was the third time the NWU presented the Alumni Awards, and in 2015 there were some changes. The criteria for the awards were different and awards were given in arts and culture, business leadership, community involvement, education, research and sport categories. This year was also the first time the university has presented the Young Alumnus Award.
These are the seven alumni who were honoured for their professional accomplishments and service to the university and internationally:
