“During the year we will continue to encourage alumni giving by means of interventions such as the Feather Fund and the Meal-a-Day Project, and will also proactively engage our young alumni who are set to change the face of alumni relations in the future.”

ALUMNI ACTIVITIES

Kick-starting 2016

VAAL TRIANGLE CAMPUS

Busy year beckons for Vaal alumni

With ’Impact’ as the overall theme for 2016, it’s no wonder that the Vaal Triangle Campus’s alumni have been very busy so far, with more activities planned for the rest of the year.

The first business breakfast meeting of the year took place on 7 March 2016, with guest speaker Dawie Roodt, chief economist of the Efficient Group, discussing the annual budget speech of the Minister of Finance.

Representatives from academia, business, industry, local government and the media attended the event. (Read more)

Expected highlights

For the rest of the year, members of the campus’s alumni association can look forward to several highlights including networking events, reunions and more business breakfast sessions.

Two reunions are planned for the year – one for members who graduated before 2000 and one for graduates who joined the fraternity after that.

The first reunion will take place on 19 August when vocalists Jannie Moolman and Corlea Botha will perform in duet and solo, treating alumni and friends of the campus to a musical production of note. A group of four young performers from the university's conservatory at the Potchefstroom Campus will do the opening performance.

The second reunion, on 1 October, is dubbed the “Young Alumni Homecoming” and this year marks the second rendition of this successful initiative.

During this event, former students gather on the campus grounds next to the river for a day of fun and relaxation. The event is set to attract more than 800 alumni. This group of alumni made history in 2015 by being the first to contribute to the Feather Fund. They donated more than R14 000 to the campus to assist graduating students with outstanding fees.

The initiative for young alumni aims to encourage new graduates to become active alumni – be it as volunteers, donors, mentors or guest lecturers. (Read more)
