As we report in the Focus On article in this edition of Eish!, the NWU has its sights set on solving real-life problems.
With climate change being a major concern globally and in South Africa, the university recently launched a weather radar network that will have real-world impact on issues such as droughts, flash-flooding and other weather-related events.
In March this year, the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa, officially launched the NWU’s Lekwena Weather Radar network, 10 km north-east of Potchefstroom on the Lekwena Wildlife Estate.
This project aims to develop infrastructure and build capacity to improve rainfall estimation from multiple platforms that will be freely accessible to the scientific community. Click here to read more about this radar technology that will provide our country with a substantially improved weather observation network.
