Eish! crowned as best digital publication

Dear colleague,

During 2017, the editorial team, together with the graphic designers from the NWU’s Curriculum Design and Development: Graphic Services, brought you seven editions of Eish! In these editions we kept you abreast of the latest developments at the NWU, including the achievements of the university and its staff.

In doing so, we did our best to keep up with the latest trends in digital publications – in writing as well as design. Our efforts paid off, as the Eish! was announced best digital publication at the South African Publication Forum’s awards ceremony on 28 September in Johannesburg.

This annual corporate publication competition is for corporate publications across the media spectrum, from magazines, newsletters and newspapers to websites, digital publications, DVDs and more.

What makes the award extra special is that Eish! was not only competing against the staff publications of other universities, but also those of big corporates such as MultiChoice South Africa (who came third in this category) and others, including Anglo American, City of Cape Town, Absa and Sanlam.

An extra feather in the NWU’s cap is that our alumni magazine, the NWU & U, was hot on the heels of the Eish!, coming second in the same category.

The judges’ comments on the Eish! were very positive: “This is an excellent example of a digital publication that works well. The content is focused and clearly meets the objective of the publication. The many staff photographs involve the target audience. All the interactive elements make this an excellent communication tool that involves the reader. The judges were extremely impressed with the technical skills underscoring this publication.”

However, in the end it has to be you, our readers, who should be pleased with your staff publication. Please send us your comments and suggestions to make this publication even better.

The Eish! team wishes you, our readers, a festive season filled with sunshine and the joyful companionship of your loved ones.

Happy reading, and see you all next year.
