Christopher joined the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng on 1 July 2017 as communication manager. His responsibilities include internal and external communication for the campus.

Back to basics

“It’s an absolute blessing to return to the same institution where it all began for me over two decades ago. I will endeavour to focus all my energies to ‘position the NWU as a unitary institution of superior academic excellence, with a commitment to social justice’, as our strategic statement dictates,” he says.

He’s an alumni of the NWU, having obtained his BA degree in communication from the then University of Bophuthatswana. He also has an honours degree in journalism from Stellenbosch University and a master’s degree in media studies from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Working with words

His passion for “all things communication” has seen him applying his trade as a media all-rounder in radio, television, print and online media. In terms of up-skilling, Christopher plans to register for an MBA degree at the NWU next year.

Until recently he was the news editor at East Coast Radio, KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest commercial radio station, where he was responsible for the day-to-day running of the news department comprising 13 employees.

Travelling is tops

He is married to Lerato (nee Gaetsewe) and has two daughters, Kutlwano (13) and Terry (5). Travelling is an exciting activity for his family and in April this year, they visited East London in the Eastern Cape to celebrate his and his wife’s eighth wedding anniversary. They are planning something even more exotic for their 10th anniversary.

Limpopo and Mpumalanga are the only provinces Christopher and his family have not yet visited, and they hope to do so in the near future. Travelling across Africa, particularly in Ghana and Mozambique, are high up on the family’s bucket list.

Christopher is a radio fanatic and is passionate about the development of radio in South African communities. Being a journalist by profession, he is also a keen reader as and when time permits.
