The 2nd SDL Conference of the Research Focus Area Self-Directed Learning (RFASDL) of the Faculty of Education will take place from 5 to 7 November 2018 at the Elgro Hotel in Potchefstroom.

Profs Karl Wirth (Macalester College, USA), Sharan Merriam (University of Georgia, USA) and Ignatius Gous (UNISA, SA) will present their keynote addresses on the conference theme, Self-Directed Learning for the 21st Century: Implications for Higher Education. The four conference strands are:

  • Teaching / learning and assessment strategies and skills to enhance Self-Directed Learning (e.g. cooperative learning, problem-based learning and case-based teaching and learning) in school and Higher Education contexts
  • Tools, Apps and technologies to enhance Self-Directed Learning
  • The role of the contextualised curriculum to enhance Self-Directed Learning
  • Scholarship and praxis of Self-Directed Learning
