Quality assurance - Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Quality Assurance

The vision of the NWU is to become a pre-eminent university in Africa and quality assurance is an invaluable element in the pursuit thereof.
Quality is assured by internal and external evaluation processes and is coordinated in cooperation with the Institutional Quality Office.
Self-evaluation, as the primary mechanism for quality assurance, is the responsibility of each managerial head in a school, department unit or faculty and applies to academic and support units.
During external evaluation, the internal evaluation process is validated by experts from outside the NWU. The quality of academic programmes is also assessed by the Council on Higher Education’s Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC). Professional bodies pay a supplementary role by focusing on the quality assessment of professional qualifications and programmes.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology subscribes to the University policy on quality assurance.

The quality management system applies to all the activities of the Faculty. The key elements of the system include:

-

Identifying, planning, controlling, reviewing and improving all the elements of the Faculty’s value chain and supporting business processes.

-

Evaluating customer satisfaction levels and perceptions, including learner evaluation of staff and improved service delivery.

-

Monitoring and evaluating management information focused on continual improvement of the quality management system and performance.

-

Regularly reviewing the Faculty’s objectives as well as our products and services for continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.

-

Developing, implementing and maintaining a learner grievance procedure.

-

The Faculty adheres to the assessment, moderation, research and study guide policies of the NWU. The relevant manuals are being developed.
