At the Potchefstroom Campus of the NWU we strive toward becoming a research-driven campus, where excellence in teaching-learning and research are mutually reinforced. We have eight faculties, including Arts, Natural Sciences, Theology, Law, Economic and Management Sciences, Education Sciences, Engineering, and Health Sciences, and 23 innovative research entities, centres and platforms, which produce relevant and focused research of the highest quality.

At the Potchefstroom Campus of the NWU our objective is to educate and empower our postgraduate students by providing quality programmes, ensuring well-educated graduates who are able to think critically and laterally, and serve the country and its people. We also contribute towards the strengthening of our communities through the work of our researchers and postgraduate students.

We have over 100 highly ranked top researchers across the many disciplines that offer postgraduate programmes, as part of the National Research Foundation system of rated researchers. Our Postgraduate students can therefore interact with scholars who are internationally recognised in their respective fields of expertise. They also have access to state-of-the-art research equipment, as well as a vast number of information resources from our Ferdinand Postma Library.

We also provide excellent bursaries and support services to our postgraduate students.

Functional Language Policy

The NWU has a functional and multilingual language policy. This policy was implemented to ensure that every student has access to the NWU.

The NWU is a pioneer in the field of educational interpreting in its various programmes. The aim of this is to ensure inclusivity. Each campus applies this multilingual language policy according to its own student profile.

Postgraduate: English or Afrikaans, with interpreting in some programmes.
