COMPUTER SCIENCES FOR EDUCATION
Subject head: Dr B Breed
Subject group is responsible for the education of education students for the degree Baccalaureus Educationis (BEd) and the Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in the subjects Information Technology Education and Computer Application Technology Education, as well as studies at honours, master’s and doctoral levels. There are no prerequisites for prospective students wanting to take these subjects, in which there is currently a great shortage of teachers in schools.
The subject group is also responsible for the computer literacy module of all first year education students, as well as for the module dealing with the integration of computers in teaching, which all students must complete in their final year.The staff who present these courses are also involved, at various levels, in research projects. Several articles on Information Technology Education have been published in accredited national and international journals in recent years. Members of the staff have also been active in the presentation of papers at academic conferences in this field. More information is provided in the individual staff CVs.
