Brain Parcel Meal confirms Puk’s competence

Approximately 100 researchers and those interested, at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University, had the honour of listening to the experiences of A and B-graded professors.
The second “Brain Package” of the Campus took place last week where Profs. Albie van Dijk and Herrie van Rooy inspired their audience so much that they proverbially hung on the speaker’s lips.

Campus Rector, Prof. Herman van Schalkwyk, says he is very excited about the University’s vision for research directedness and the fact that the University is busy building itself an excellent name in several purposeful fields of research.
Van Dijk, of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, has for several years been involved with the NWU Puk with research on Biochemistry, Genetic Engineering, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology and New Generation (recombinant) vaccine development for humans and animals.
She was involved in Onderstepoort’s Veterinary Science Institute for 23 years and also worked abroad for ten years. She assured the audience that research in Africa is of the very best in the world in spite of the shortcomings and backlogs as opposed to first-world countries. She added that each researcher must bear in mind that “research requires 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”.
Van Rooy knew exactly how to press the right buttons of the audience, which led to brilliant reaction to his inspiring career history. In turn, he inspired the audience to “endure and persevere”. Van Rooy has been attached to the NWU since 1980 and joked that thirty years ago he would never have thought that he would today be a professor in the Faculty of Theology.
The Brain Package Meal was once more an infectious-successful occasion where Campus Management, lecturers and students were assured afresh that the University’s research can compete with the best in the world.
