Students of Potchefstroom Academy also participated in Barefoot Day and offered to wash the Pukke’s painted feet.

Services’ (SRCS) calendar is the annual Barefoot Day that takes place on the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University.
According to the chairperson of SRCS, Jean-Marc Stidworthy, the aim of this day is to alert the students and the community to the fact that there are people who do not have clothes and shoes and to then make the sacrifice by going barefoot for one day. “Clothes, shoes and blankets are collected by residences, schools, businesses and any other willing institutions and individuals.”  Stidworthy says they could succeed in collecting R270 000 worth of clothing last year that was distributed among the less privileged in the community.
Residences were given the opportunity in couples to exhibit the clothing and shoes they had collected in a creative manner. Several competitions were also held which, amongst others, includes a fashion parade by HC members from each residence, and prizes for the largest, smallest and ugliest foot. The day is also used to made people aware of breast cancer, in collaboration with Cansa, because October is Breast Cancer Month. Stidworthy says they also involved lecturers in the activities of the day to inform them better about what SCRS does for the community.
