
Alumnus receives fourth honorary doctor’s degree
An alumnus student and professor of the former PU for CHE and international expert on an-organic chemistry recently received his fourth honorary doctor’s degree.
Prof. Rudi van Eldik attained his DSc at the PU for CHE and continued his post-doctoral studies in the USA and Germany in 1980. According to Prof. Kobus Pienaar, the Dean of Natural Sciences at th
e NWU Puk, Van Eldik has made a phenomenal success of his career abroad and currently he is the Head of the Institute for an-organic and analytical chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany.
In 1997, Van Eldik received his first honorary doctor’s degree from the PU for SHE, followed by one from the Kragujevac University in Serbia in 2006 and yet another one from the Jagiellonian University in Poland. He has just received his fourth honorary doctor’s degree from the University of Pretoria.
Pienaar says Van Eldik was also his promoter during his postgraduate studies. In October this year Van Eldik will be retiring at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and Pienaar will be attending this occasion.
