Faculty of Law receives International Expert

The Faculty of Law on North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus recently acted as host to an international expert who also afforded members of staff the opportunity to rub shoulders with him.

Prof. Johan van der Walt of the University of Glasgow gave a lecture at the Faculty of Law. Here he is with the Vice-Rector: Teaching-Learning, Prof. Mariette Lowes, and the Dean of this Faculty, Prof. Francois Venter.

Prof. Johan van der Walt of the University of Glasgow in Scotland presented an HL Swanepoel lecture which drew a full lecturing hall. This sought-after lecturing occasion, called after the first Dean of this Faculty, presents the floor to experts to share their field of research with those interested.
Van der Walt, who has already been working in Glasgow as a professor for five years was involved at the University of Johannesburg earlier on for ten years. His interest and expertise covers a wide spectrum of philosophy of law and theory of law.
According to the Dean of the Faculty, prof. Francois Venter, it was a privilege to receive an academic of his stature on the campus. “It is through such occasions that we increasingly focus on the research directedness of the Campus. It is indeed an occasion for stimulating thought and further initiatives.”
