Best Practice Guideline Learning Institute at School of Nursing Science

The School of Nursing Science hosted the first African Best Practice Guidelines Learning Institute presented by representatives from the world leaders in this area, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), and staff from the School of Nursing Science of the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus from 17-21 January 2011.

  Thirty eight nurse educators, practitioners and managers from across South Africa attended this week long event. Some of the topics addresses were the dynamics of evidence based nursing practice, and the methodology of best practice guideline development. Guideline implementation in clinical practice settings using a systematic change process, and individual, organizational and system strategies as well as evaluation of implementation programs were also discussed.
  According to feedback received, the participants found the learning institute very informative and all left with actions plans to improve evidence-based practice in their places of work. Valuable partnerships were established and follow-up workshops and ongoing collaboration are planned.
