The policy of the Faculty is to be highly visible in, and to be of service to the community. This is mirrored in its mission statement in terms of which the Faculty aims not only to be of relevance internationally but also to contribute positively to the national community. Huge projects undertaken by the Faculty bear testimony to the dedication of the Faculty. Particularly noteworthy in this respect is the legislative review programme which was mandated by the Premier of the North West Province and a training programme for members of community Police forums requested by the provincial secretariat for safety and Liaison.
Notable projects in which the Faculty and/or its members individually are involved, include the “Bewaria Project” whose aim it is to protect and develop the Vredefort Dome area (a world heritage site), the surrounding communities and also the nature in the area in a manner consistent with accepted international environmental principles. Individual members of the Faculty are consultants for the Professional Health Board and the South African Nursing Board. Some members are commissioners of the Small Claims Court and serve a external examiners for the Department of Commerce and Trading. Various members are involved with practical legal training for the training of attorneys and serve on the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, Environmental Governance Committee.
