Synchronisation of GroupWise and Novell passwords for students
Take into consideration that the Novell passwords are also synchronised with the passwords of other applications (for example eFundi, Varsite and Noticeboard) and if there is a reference in this article to the Novell passwords, it will also affect the other applications.
You will need to use the same password for your Novell Login Screen (the first screen that appears when you access a PC in the PC Labs or in the dormitory) and the GroupWise login screen.
To be able to read you emails from campus:
If you are logged on to a PC in a PC Lab or in the dormitory, you will still not need to re-supply your password for GroupWise if accessing GroupWise.
You can still change your GroupWise password in the GroupWise program under Tools, Options and Security (read more in the article ). On that screen you will be warned that any changes to your GroupWise password will also alter your directory services password. Primarily this means that your passwords for Novell, eFundi, Varsite and Noticeboard will also change.
Reading your emails via the Internet:
Your Novell password must also be used when you want to use GroupWise WebAccess to read your emails via the Internet.
On campus students whose Novell / GroupWise password is unknown to them, should visit their "Sleutelbord’ or "Keyboard" office or their IT Student Support Centre on their campus to activate a new password. Remember to take your student card along.
Have you forgotten your Novell password, or do you not know what it is?
Any student (in particular off campus students) that do not know their Novell password, should go to the webpage https://www2-win5.nwu.ac.za/PasswordRequest/passrequest.asp to get a new password. The process are as follows:
you will access a screen prompting you for your student number, identity number, cell phone number and your email address (not your number@student.nwu.ac.za email address);
Please note that the above required information are verified with the information the NWU Student Administration have available on you (normally this includes the information you supplied to the NWU during registration or in you application). If you are uncertain which information you supplied you will have to contact Academic Administration.
After you submitted the correct information on the website, the system will issue you with a new password which will be sent to you via email or SMS.
Remember that this process will then change all your passwords for GroupWise, Novell, eFundi, Varsite and Noticeboard, but not your internet/firewall pasword.
