School of Agricultural Sciences
About Us
The school is made up of three disciplines, two centres and the experimental farm. The disciplines are Animal Science, Crop Science and Agricultural Economics and Extension.
The centres are the Centre for Animal Health Studies (CAHS) and the Centre for AgriBusiness and Entrepreneurial Training (CAET). The school office and the Centre for AgriBusiness and Entrepreneurial Training are located at the Molelwane campus, some seven kilometres from the main campus, while the Centre for Animal Health Studies is located at the main campus. The school has some 69 staff in total.
The Agribusiness Centre is mainly servicing small farmers on short courses, the training of extension officers and any other contract business, such as land assessment and feasibility studies for resettlement.
The main research thrust in the school is Animal Health, which is considered to be one of the niche and strategic areas for Mafikeng Campus. The sub-areas include veterinary public health, animal nutrition, molecular microbiology and toxicology.
