LLM Import and Export Law

The purpose of this dedicated LLM course is to train experts in a fast developing field of the law in South Africa where not enough legal expertise exists. The modules taught in this course are all of direct relevance to the practitioner. A balance is maintained between sound academic knowledge and the necessity to enable graduates to apply their knowledge in practice. The majority of the lecturers have extensive practical experience and all have a sound academic background. The lecturers are all experts in their various fields. They include people like advocate Altus Joubert SC (professor extraordinaire at the NWU), who lectures on Customs and Excise Law, professor Sieg Eiselen (part time practicing advocate) who lectures on the CISG and Ms Sagree Chetty is the expert in Transport law advocate Charl Hugo (formerly professor at US) who lectures on International Instruments of Payment and Guarantee, to name but a few. The course consists of the following compulsory modules: · International Instruments of Payment and Guarantee; · International Law of Contracts; · International Transport Law; · Customs and Excise Law and · A mini-dissertation (40 to 60 pages) on any topic in the field of Import and Export Law. One further module must be selected from the following: · Cross-Border Insolvency Law and International Transfer of Technology; · International Environmental Law; · Private International Law and Aspects of Insurance Law; · International Tax Law or · International Commercial Arbitration. |
