School of Postgraduate Studies
The mandate of this School is two-fold. Firstly, we manage the Faculty’s postgraduate programmes, namely the generic Master of Laws, the specialised Master of Laws in Labour and Social Security Law, the Doctor of Laws and the Doctor of Philosphy programmes. Secondly, we promote the research output of the Faculty by providing research grants, hosting seminars and conferences and coordinating commissioned research and commercialisation of expertise.
The School aims to deliver postgraduate students of a high standard and to undertake research into, and the publication and materials concerning, legal issues of particular reference to the North-West Province and Southern Africa.
The objective of the research is to further an understanding of the legal system and to promote the quality of the services offered by the legal profession to the public.
Some of the modules offered within the degree programmes include, inter alia, Criminal Justice, Sentencing and the Penal Process, Procedural Issues in Southern Africa, Collective Labour Law, Family Law issues, Administrative Law, Public International Law and Constitutional and Human Rights Law.
