Industrial Engineering

Industrial Engineering

Duration of Course: 4 Years

Industrial Engineers define, design, deploy and refine physical and conceptual systems that improve efficiency, quality, productivity, job satisfaction, certainty and customer happiness. They use a mix of engineering design skills, business skills, interpersonal  and legal skills to do so.

Industrial Engineers enable people, technology, information, materials, methods and money to work together productively and effectively. Industrial Engineering originated more than a century ago from the industrial revolution when industries started to search for the best, cheapest and fastest way to manufacture products. Today, Industrial Engineers are found in all kinds of industries, just to name a few ...

In Manufacturing Industry: Do you dislike waste? So do Industrial Engineers. So much so that they work hard to ensure that each product that you buy off the shelf was produced in the most resource friendly, environmentally friendly and cost effective way. Also, they make sure it gets to the place you want to buy it so you don't have to wait or search for stock!

In Food and Beverage Industry: Industrial Engineers ensure that each product you eat has been produced according to quality processes and packaged in a way that protects it. When you go to any supermarket to purchase your groceries, remember that every product in that store had to get there somehow and an Industrial Engineer was most likely involved by designing the supply chains and quality processes.

In Banking: Imagine ATMs only had enough cash for you 50% of the time or you had to wait 3 hours every time you wanted to perform any banking activity. Industrial Engineers are excellent if banks want to ensure that this never becomes a reality. They design processes, build simulation models, use operations management and customer service design to ensure that banking is as painless and high-tech as possible.

In short: It is an Industrial Engineer who helps airports decide when and from which gate should airplanes depart. In a hospital, how many beds and nurses to be allocated to each hospital ward. Whether you use a motor vehicle, a chocolate bar or a cell phone or whether you withdraw money or withdraw blood, you can be pretty sure that an Industrial Engineer was involved in the design, manufacturing or distribution of that product or service.
