FAULT REPORTING

It is our policy to test equipment before delivery to ensure that it is in a working condition. However, it is our experience that Murphy’s Law sometimes applies in presentations. In such situations, you should please follow the procedure explained below.

Trouble with overhead projector (OHP) during a presentation:
Follow the suggested fault identification steps.
If you are unable to locate and/or correct the fault within 3 minutes, contact X1864 for immediate assistance.

Defective equipment:
Please report defective equipment to your building representative, who will notify Teaching-learning media services. If you prefer, you may also report it to us telephonically (X1864).

Missing equipment:
Please report missing equipment immediately to your building representative, who will report it to Teaching-learning Media Services and Protection Services.

Fault identification: Overhead projectors (OHP)

Possible problem

Suggested solutions

There is no OHP in the venue.

1.        Contact X1864 for urgent assistance.

2.       Please report the missing OHP to the building representative.

3.       The OHP was probably either taken to an adjacent venue by a colleague, or it was illegally “borrowed” by an unknown person.

Nothing happens when the main switch of the OHP is switched on.

Check the power supply.

1.        Is the power point plugged into the wall plug?

2.        Is the wall switch switched on?

3.        Is the trip switch on the switch board in the “on” position? If not, switch it to the “on” position.

Check that the equipment has not been “sabotaged”.

1.        Is the wall plug unplugged / electrical cable cut?

2.        Has an object or Prestik been inserted under the glass top of the OHP, preventing contact?

If the fault identification and suggested solutions were unsuccessful, contact X1864 for urgent assistance.

OHP does not focus.

Adjust focus:

Adjust focus knob on projection lens arm until image is in focus.

Make sure that the equipment has not been sabotaged.

Has Vaseline or another lubricant been applied to the projection lens, mirror or work surface? If so, wipe it off with a tissue/cloth.

Light bulb goes dead during presentation (light bulb blows).

Pull out emergency switch mechanism to activate emergency bulb (left adjusting knob at front of OHP).

When OHP is switched on, brown/blue concentric circles spoil the projected image.

Turn lamp cavity adjusting knob left and/or right, until brown/blue circles disappear (right adjusting knob at front of OHP).
