Shoulder To Shoulder with the Big Guns

The players of the Soccer Institute at the NWU-Mafikeng Campus are only one step away from rubbing shoulders with the big guns. They only need one win in the Castle League to qualify for the 32 teams in the Nedbank Cup.  The team is very motivated to overcome this last hurdle as it is their dream to play against PSL teams with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mmamelodi Sundowns.

In the build-up, the Soccer Institute had to beat tough teams such as Mammusa United from Schweizer-Reneke, whom they beat 7-6 in a penalty shootout after a 4 all draw. The next encounter was against Shining Stars from Brits, whom they won 3-1.  Pule Lechaba scored two goals and Sipho Mateis 1. After a hard fought encounter against Soshanguve Sunshine they won the battle, 5-4 in a  penalty shootout.

According to coach Malombo Lechaba, the boys showed character and are determined to outplay their counterparts from the Potch Campus, Als Puk Tawana F.C, who proceeded to the last 16 in the 2009.

The team can count on the full support from the staff and students who stand behind them all the way.
