If the eagerness and excitement of the newly welcomed first year students on the Vaal Triangle Campus is anything to go by, 2012 is going to be one for the history books! During the recent welcoming ceremonies – which took place over a period of three days, the campus became the academic home of more than 1 600 first year students.

In her address to the students and their parents, Prof Linda du Plessis (Vice Rector: Academic and Planning) compared the arrival of the new students to a breeze of fresh air and commented on how the sense of anticipation and excitement in the air was almost tangible on campus.  Her address centred on the theme of choice and she commended the students on choosing the Vaal Triangle Campus as their academic home.

Subject Group takes a stand to end modern-day slavery

The Subject Group of Political Science on the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) recently joined the international initiative to end modern-day slavery. The CNN Freedom Project - a brain child of the global news agency, CNN, is aimed at raising much needed attention to the plight of modern-day slaves.

According to statistics a total of between 600,000 and 800,000 human beings are captured and transported across international borders every year. It is furthermore estimated that there are at least 10 million slaves in the world today – more than any point in human history.
