Entry into the library is through the security gate on the Ground Floor.You can only enter by a user ID card which you swipe at the security gate. Casual visitors need to contact security personnel at the gate.

GROUND FLOOR

Immediately after the security gate and to the left is the Circulation Desk. It is at this desk that you:

Check out (borrow) books
-
Check-in (return) books
-
Reserve books that are out on loan etc
|

To the south of the Circulation Desk is the Short loan collection. Materials put on reserve by lecturers
are located here at the Reserve Desk. |

The periodicals section occupies the West wing of the Ground Floor. Here are found:

Current/latest issues of journals.

Bound volumes of journals

Printed Indexes and Abstracts

Newspapers - Current and back-runs

The Reference desk is located opposite the Circulation desk, at the entrance of the Periodicals section. The desk is always manned by a Reference Librarian to help you find answers to your questions or locate information that will help you to write assignments. The Reference collection is located on the shelves towards the back of the floor before the stairs leading to the First floor or Basement. The Reference collection includes

Opposite the Circulation Desk are shelves displaying only new books. Check out this area for new arrivals.

FIRST FLOOR

The electronic classroom is located on the Southern Wing of the First Floor. It has ± 40 computers which are used for skills empowerment library instruction. The training focuses on how to:

Search electronic databases
-
Search the Internet,
-
Search the OPAC (library catalogue)
-
Use e-mail
|
|

|
|
Half-way down the floor, on both the West and East wings are offices of the information specialists who assist users in searching for relevant information for their assignment and research using the wealth of databases. |
|

On this floor are the books that users may borrow. There are OPAC terminals for locating books on the shelves. Part of the bound serials collection is located on the west wing.

BASEMENT
|

The Media Center is the custodian of the library's collection of Audio-Visual software and their requisite equipment. These consist of:

Video cassettes and VCR players

Audio cassettes and Cassette players
-
Slides and Slide projectors
-
Transparencies and Tranparency viewers
-
CD format of books and PCs s etc.
-
Computers for students to do searches on electronic databases and to surf the INTERNET.
