Library Services of the North-West University

Copyright 

As a result of academic activities that include teaching and instruction the staff of the University is involved in creating and using of intellectual property. It is therefore important to the University that the rights of authors should be respected and that the necessary royalties be paid to the people concerned.

Copyright is the right whereby certain products of the mind are protected by law. The Copyright Law states that copyright is breached if a person who is not the owner of the copyright, in any way reproduces literary or musical works without the permission of the owner.

South Africa is a signatory of the Bern Convention for the protection of literary and artistic works. As a member of the Bern Union, South Africa is compelled to ensure that it's copyright law complies with certain minimum requirements and undertakes to treat the works of other countries in the same way it does it's own.

As from 2006, all applications for copyright clearance of readers, will be administrated by the Department of Logistics. Contact persons: Bertus le Roux (018 299 4019), Alta Wernich (018 299 4007) and Marlene Nice
