The NWU supports transformation, social cohesion and the elimination of discrimination
The North-West University (NWU) strongly supports and fosters the notion of diversity, intercultural harmony and co-operation, and welcomes the visit on 12 June 2008 of the ministerial committee that is investigating human rights in the higher education sector.
The Minister of Education recently established the committee to investigate all forms of discrimination in the public higher education institutions and to make appropriate recommendations to combat discrimination and promote social cohesion.
In pursuance of its mandate, the committee invites written submissions from individuals, institutions and organisations with an interest in higher education transformation. The submission should focus on organisations’ or individuals’ experiences on the nature and extent of discrimination in higher education.
Submissions can also be e-mailed to HEtransformation@doe.gov.za or fax to (012) 328 6029. Individuals can also contact Mrs Babalwa Ntabeni-Matutu at (012) 312 5251/5239.

The Council of the NWU recently expressed its concern with the difficulties experienced in the country and in the higher education sector with issues such as racism, sexism, intolerance, xenophobia, violence and crime. Recognising and appreciating what has been done in this regard by the NWU community, Council stated its resolve to engage constructively with these issues.
