
International Vice-Chancellors visit NWU
Four Vice-Chancellors from renowned international universities recently visited the North-West University to establish and strengthen a network of like-minded universities.
Prof Dr Lex M Bouter, Rector Magnificus of the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam, Dr Susan Cole, President of the Montclair State University, New Jersey, and Prof Deian Hopkin, Vice-Chancellor of the London South Bank University were accompanied by a contingent of senior executives.
“The NWU took the initiative to establish a network to exchange ideas on an annual basis regarding the challenges facing the modern university,” says Dr Theuns Eloff, Vice-Chancellor.
The following topics were discussed:
• Management of the 21st century entrepreneurial university,
• Effective management, including performance management and incentives,
• Performance indicators and benchmarking; and
• Diversity management and internationalisation.
On Monday, 12 November 2007 the delegates from the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam and the Montclair State University visited the Mafikeng Campus and the Soccer Institute, while the delegates from the London South bank University were hosted by the Potchefstroom and Vaal Triangle Campuses.
