1. Background

 

The Chinese Government Scholarship Scheme awards scholarships in China for international students. It is established by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of  China (MOE PRC) in accordance with educational exchange agreements or understandings reached between the Chinese government and governments of other countries, organizations, education institutions and relevant international organizations to provide both full scholarships and partial scholarships to international students and scholars.

International student applicants for the China Scholarship Programme must choose their host institutions and subjects from the Chinese Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) under the Programme.

2. Fields of study

3. Eligibility Requirements

 

The scholarships are for all international students wishing to study in China.

 

3.1 Undergraduates

 

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

Applicants for undergraduate programmes must have senior high school diploma with good academic performance and be under the age of 25.

 

3.2 Postgraduates

 

Applicants for a master’s degree programme must have an honours-level degree and be under the age of 35.

Applicants for a doctoral degree programme must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

 

3.3 Training Programmes

 

Applicants for a Chinese training programme must have a senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35.

NB: In this context, Chinese language is the only subject available.

 

3.4 Scholar Programmes

 

Applicants for a general scholar programme must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study and be under the age of 45. Here, all subjects including Chinese language are available.

Applicants for a senior scholar programme must have at least a master’s degree, or hold the academic position of at least an associate professor and be under the age of 50.

4. Value of the Award

 

4.1 Full Scholarship

  • Free registration;
  • Free tuition;
  • Free laboratory usage;
  • Free internship;
  • Free basic learning materials;
  • Free accommodation if on campus;
  • Basic living allowance;
  • One-off settlement subsidy after registration;
  • Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China; and
  • One-off inter-city travel subsidy.

4.2 Partial Scholarship

Only one or more options from the following list:

  • Free registration;
  • Free tuition;
  • Free laboratory usage;
  • Free internship;
  • Free basic learning materials;
  • Free accommodation if on campus;
  • Basic living allowance;
  • One-off settlement subsidy after registration;
  • Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China; and
  • One-off inter-city travel subsidy.

 

NB: One-off settlement subsidy and one-off inter-city travel allowance is excluded.

5. Application instructions

 

Applicants must apply to one of the Chinese diplomatic missions or dispatching authorities between January and April.

Applicants need to consult the dispatching authorities regarding specifics of the application period and procedures.
