The Vaal Triangle Campus boasts with record number of PhD’s this year

With the nine new doctorates who will receive their degrees at the Spring Graduation Ceremony this week brings the total to 18 successful PhD-students this year. This is 12 more PhD’s than last year.

The Campus also has the most successful M-students this year. With the 19 master degrees more than last year the total for 2005 is altogether 43. The Master degrees will also be handed over at the Spring Graduation Ceremony on Thursday.

During this Ceremony the North-West University (NWU) will hand over a total of 34 PhD’s. The different faculties with their doctorates are Arts (1), Natural Sciences (4), Theology (7), Educational Sciences (4), Economic and Management Sciences (5), Health Sciences (4) and Vaal Triangle (9).

At least ten of the new doctorates are personnel on the NWU’s campuses in Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark. Amongst them is Mr Werner Nell (Sociology) at the Vaal Triangle Campus.

According to Prof Tinie Theron, Dean of the Faculty Vaal Triangle, 50,6% of the academic staff on the Campus has obtained doctoral degrees.
