School Director named representative of Higher Education South Africa

Potchefstroom Campus – Prof Grieta Hanekom, Director of the School of Physiology, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences on the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU), was designated by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, to serve on the Professional Board for Dietetics and Nutrition as representative of Higher Education South Africa (HESA).

Prof Grieta will henceforth be responsible for the quality control of nutrition and diet programmes across South Africa. She will also communicate professional council decisions concerning teaching-learning with tertiary institutions.

“It is an honour and I am grateful that my expertise is recognised. I will enjoy sharing this information and knowledge with colleagues and ploughing it back in the school and the faculty,” says Prof Grieta.

Prof Grieta is of the opinion that her many years of experience of programme development and her training with the Council on Higher Education led to her appointment. “I am thoroughly aware of the processes, procedures and legislation associated with programme development and I have developed two programmes (integrated four-year Dietetics programme 1995-1997 and the Nutritional Sciences programme 2008-2009).”
