SAASTE NATIONAL CONFERENCE
 

The Mafikeng Campus of North-West University in conjunction with North West Department of Education hosted a National Conference of The South African Association of Science and Technology Educators (SAASTE).  The conference took place from 10 -14 July 2011 and was attended by about 300 delegates, all educators in the field of Natural Sciences, Life Sciences, Agriculture, Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences and Technology.
Amongst the dignitaries were the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Honorable Mr Enver Surty, the MEC for Education, Mr. Raymond Elisha, Ms Lenah Miga, the Executive Mayor of Mafikeng, the President of SAASTE, Mr Moyahabo Modiba and the Dean of the faculty of Education, Dr Gericke.  The conference was officially opened by Deputy Minister Surty. 
The theme of the conference was “Innovations in Sciences and Technology Education for a developing South Africa”.  With its main purpose to promote Science and Technology Education by enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in South Africa it attracted  scientists from all over the country. 
The initiative is also set to further the Professional interests of Science and Technology educators.  This will include participation in curriculum policy issues and to establish and maintain international links in Science and Technology education.  It will also help promoting the links between SAASTE and the Department of Education at district, regional, provincial and national levels.
