PUK ARTS

Artéma Recording Studio

The Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University boasts with a modern recording studio that is upgraded continually. Alabama Productions offers artists a one-stop service for the production of a CD – from the sound recordings to copyright and distribution.

Mr Pieter de Bruin, music director of Alabama Productions, says the products and services of Alabama Productions centre round the needs of student artists and are relevant, flexible and affordable. Specialised knowledge and assistance will facilitate the artists’ task and the safe location of the studio on campus makes it easily accessible to artists.
Some of the products that are on offer include a CD label that includes professional audio recordings, graphic design, copyright, basic marketing, packaging and distribution. Voice processing and backtracks, costume and décor designs, music literature, sheet music editions of NWU songwriters and composers, workshops, light musical productions, hiring of costumes, as well as production services such as sound and lighting systems for school productions are also available.
De Bruin says that Alabama Productions now bring products and services, which were formerly available only in cities, right to the front porch of Potchefstroom and the North-West Region. “It is my wish that we are not only going to experience magic musical moments here, but that we will also have wonderful teaching moments.”
During the official opening of the studio, the rector, Prof Annette Combrink said that the studio was an investment for the campus and that she was proud of the innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit that has been invested in the studio.
Alabama Productions originated from the ranks of the renowned Alabama Student Company that has been entertaining the public since 1943. Last year, the student company was transformed into Alabama Productions, striving to offer qualitative and relevant cultural support to the artists’ environment of North-West.
