Prof Martin Oosthuizen appointed to the HEQC

Institutional Office - Prof Martin Oosthuizen, the NWU‘s Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching-Learning has been appointed to the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE).

In terms of the Higher Education Act, the HEQC is a permanent committee of the CHE and it has statutory responsibility for quality assurance and quality promotion in the South African higher education sector.

Prof Martin says he is honoured and looking forward to being part of the HEQC, particularly as it tackles important challenges relating to the second cycle of institutional reviews, and the development of a framework for standards setting within the context of the Higher Education Qualifications Framework.

He believes that his involvement with the HEQC will assist him in positioning the NWU as a university that provides an excellent student learning experience and adheres to best practice in it terms of the quality of its core academic activities and support services.

Prof Martin’s appointment is for the period 1 April 2012 – 30 March 2015.
