Social and Government Studies

The History

The School for Social Studies was established on 1 October 1998 by Prof. Jacques van der Elst, Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the PU vir CHO. The School had 18 academic staff members (incuding the 4 from Philosophy) and 3 Supporting staff members. The name of the School was amended on 31 January 2002 to School for Social and Government Studies. Prof. Willie van Wyk was the first director of the School from 1 October 1998 to 31 July 2006. In 2004 the School became a part of the North West University. Prof. Pieter Potgieter took over the directorship as active director in 2006. On 1 January 2007 Prof. Johan Zaaiman was appointed as School Director.
